Honey joined our little family on November 24th, 2019. Formerly named Blue, we adopted her from SF Animal Care and Control assuming she was a healthy and happy pup. She had a slight limp after her first day with us, but we thought maybe she had overdone it at the park. While we were right about the happy portion, it was confirmed on January 7, 2020, at not even a year of age, Honey has cruciate ligament tears in BOTH of her hind legs and now needs surgery to be able to fix her up and allow her to move about, pain-free. That's the equivalent to a human having tears in both of their ACL's (ouch!). She has not been able to run or play like a normal 1-year-old pup since she is in so much pain.
Honey was an owner surrender before she came to us and we believe the previous owners knew about her condition but could not afford care, so they gave her up. We were not told or made aware she had any medical issues prior to adoption and we are currently speaking with Animal Care and Control about the matter. We too cannot afford the surgery, and although we have Nationwide Pet Insurance, they will not cover the procedure or visits that have to do with it because it considered is a pre-existing condition, but we refuse to make this girl go through any more homes. She has a forever home with us and we want to make sure she gets the care she needs, but unfortunately, we now have to look outside of our own pockets for help.
We are currently researching different surgery centers across California. To get both knees operated on with multiple recheck visits, the total will come out to anywhere between $10,000-$12,000. We are prepared to max out our credit cards and sell our souls if we have to. But anything you can contribute to help us get our girl back up and running (literally) would mean the world to us. Whether is $0.50 or $50, it all matters and it all adds up.
We appreciate you just taking the time to read this and our sending love out to you and yours.
With Love,
Honey, Mackenzie & Ryan
