Get Goose Walking and Healthy again

Hi! My name is Cassio, and I’m the best friend of an amazing little bear called Lt. Nick “Goose” Bradshaw—or just Goose, if you’re friendly airman.

I first met Goose at a dog shelter back in June 2022. Every weekend, I’d visit to walk him, and those moments quickly became the highlight of our weeks. By December 2022, I decided it was time to bring my wingman home for good.

Goose has been the best friend anyone could ever ask for. He’s loyal, gentle, and full of love. But just three weeks ago, everything changed—he suddenly couldn’t use his back legs anymore.

After visits to three different vets, Goose was finally referred to a neurologist. The diagnosis? He needed a CT scan—our first major expense in this journey. I didn’t hesitate. Goose has always been there for me, and now it was my turn to be there for him.

The scan revealed devastating news: a mass on his spine. Surgery was our only option, and it needed to happen immediately. On Thursday, November 21st, the neurologist broke the news, and by Monday, Goose was on the operating table.

During the surgery, the vet called me with heartbreaking news. The mass was difficult to remove, and continuing would cause Goose unbearable pain. I was asked to make an impossible decision—to let him go. With tears in my eyes, I told the vet to keep working while I rushed to the clinic to say goodbye.

Then, something incredible happened. Just as I arrived, I got another call—the surgeon had successfully removed the mass! Goose had made it through, and we were given a second chance.

Now the next step is rehabilitation. To walk again, Goose needs specialized care at a rehab center. The first 15 days alone cost €915, and he may need to stay for 1–2 months.

Olá! O meu nome é Cássio e sou o melhor amigo de um pequeno urso incrível chamado Lt. Nick “Goose” Bradshaw—ou apenas Goose, se fores um aviador simpático.

Conheci o Goose num abrigo para cães em junho de 2022. Todos os fins de semana ia lá para passear com ele, e esses momentos rapidamente se tornaram o ponto alto das nossas semanas. Em dezembro de 2022, decidi que estava na hora de levar o meu copiloto para casa, de forma definitiva.

O Goose tem sido o melhor amigo que qualquer pessoa poderia pedir. Ele é leal, meigo e cheio de amor. Mas, há apenas três semanas, tudo mudou—de repente, ele perdeu a capacidade de usar as patas traseiras.

Depois de consultas com três veterinários diferentes, o Goose foi finalmente encaminhado para um neurologista. O diagnóstico? Ele precisava de uma tomografia—o nosso primeiro grande custo nesta jornada. Não hesitei. O Goose sempre esteve lá para mim, e agora era a minha vez de estar lá para ele.

O exame revelou uma notícia devastadora: uma massa na coluna. A cirurgia era a única opção, e tinha de ser feita imediatamente. Na quinta-feira, 21 de novembro, o neurologista deu-me a notícia, e na segunda-feira o Goose já estava na mesa de operações.

Durante a cirurgia, o veterinário ligou-me com notícias de partir o coração. A massa era difícil de remover e continuar poderia causar uma dor insuportável ao Goose. Pediram-me que tomasse uma decisão impossível—deixá-lo ir. Com lágrimas nos olhos, pedi ao veterinário que continuasse enquanto corria para a clínica para me despedir.

Então, algo incrível aconteceu. Quando cheguei quase à clínica, recebi outra chamada—o cirurgião conseguiu remover a massa com sucesso! O Goose sobreviveu, e tivemos uma segunda oportunidade.

Agora, o próximo passo é a reabilitação. Para voltar a andar, o Goose precisa de cuidados especializados num centro de reabilitação. Só os primeiros 15 dias custam 915€, e ele poderá precisar de lá ficar entre 1 e 2 meses.
