Hi there,
Girls & Women's football is growing hugely in Stevenage and the surrounding area. Aided massively by the great work of the foundation, the football club itself and our amazing women's team.
Unfortunately, one of our longest serving players, and amazing ambassador for the club, Amy Gooderham, suffered an awful knee injury in a league match against Harpenden FC which requires extensive surgery to get her back on the pitch.
During the process of scoring a goal, she suffered a complete ACL rupture and medial meniscus tear of her left knee.
She now requires a complete ACL reconstruction, medial meniscus repair and an additional Lateral Extra-Articular Tenodesis (LET) procedure to provide extra stability to the knee – three surgical procedures in one!!
Without this huge operation, there's no way Amy will kick a ball again, but with a waiting list of possibly 18 months to 2 years, PLUS another 9-12 months post-op recovery, Amy could face being sidelined for TWO or THREE full seasons if we wait for the NHS.
More worryingly, it is dramatically impacting Amy's career and work.
Amy is currently training to be a PE teacher at Hitchin Girls’ School and has a real passion for Physical Education and school sport. Having started her career as a sports apprentice at Whitehill Junior School (Hitchin), for 7 years she helped hundreds of pupils find their love for physical activity inside and outside of school.
She was also heavily involved in the organisation of the Hitchin Primary Schools Girls’ Football AND Netball League, ensuring pupils from local schools had the chance to represent their school competitively in both sports, no matter their ability.
Recently, Amy has interviewed and secured her first full-time teaching position as a secondary PE teacher at Hitchin Girls’ School, starting September 2026. Here she'll once again be inspiring and leading the way for hundreds of local girls and young women...
BUT heartbreakingly, if she can't have this operation in the next few months, it will really affect her ability to work in September due to the physical nature of her job.
IF she can get the operation done privately with our help, she can have the surgery within a couple of months and have enough recovery time to be fit and ready to go back to work in September 2026!
Aside from all that, Amy is an incredible human and role model for young women far and wide. Strong, independent, and someone who constantly empowers girls and young women to feel strong, safe, and capable in today's tough society.
We need to get her back on the pitch, and back to helping inspire the next generation of young women in the area and beyond.
If you're a Stevenage supporter, or just a follower of the women's game and want to donate a little (or a lot!) to get this operation done ASAP, it would mean the world to us and Amy.
COYB!
