Please Help Godzilla Heal Her Broken Leg
I adopted my two kittens, Godzilla and Grace, from a local shelter when they were both just 3 months old. As the runt of her litter, Godzilla was smaller than every other kitten there, but she quickly proved that her spirit was anything but small.
Now at 1.5-years old, our cats are the heart of our home—silly, sweet, incredibly affectionate. Godzilla has been famously fearless, and loving of new friends and experiences since the moment we brought them home.
The Accident--
Yesterday morning, that fearless nature led to a scary accident. Godzilla jumped from the staircase in our home, lost her footing while leaping onto a nearby storage bin and ultimately landed poorly on her right leg. I heard the crash followed by her cries, and found her shaking, limping, and in immense pain. I immediately rushed her to urgent care for help.
The Diagnosis & Road to Recovery--
While the Vet initially feared at minimum a dislocated hip, X-rays revealed a complete distal femoral physeal fracture with effusion in her lower right leg. Too close to her knee for casting or splinting to be able to heal properly, in order for her to walk again without lifelong pain, she required immediate orthopedic surgery. The options were to surgically repair the fracture, or amputate the leg altogether which would be devastating.
The trip to urgent care bill came
out to $1358, and I was quoted an additional $5,000 for the procedure alone, not including aftercare. But after a frantic day of searching, I found an animal hospital able to perform the surgery this morning for a lower cost. Godzilla is a fighter, her surgery went well and she is staying at the hospital overnight recovering from the procedure. Her getting into surgery was the top priority, and figuring out how to pay for it now is the next concern.
Where the Funds Go--
The total cost for Godzilla’s emergency care and surgery has reached $4,008. As a single pet parent and someone who's self employed this is an overwhelming sudden expense, and I am asking for any help you can provide to get this sweet girl back on her feet.
These are the expenses broken down between clinics.
- $1,358: Urgent Care (Exams, X-rays, IV sedation, monitoring, and pain management)
- $2,650: Orthopedic surgery to repair the distal femoral fracture
