Get Gabriella Back On The Road
S-ke:g Tas, my name is Gabriella Cázares-Kelly I am an educator and community organizer who lives in Tucson and works on the Tohono O’odham Nation. I rely heavily on my car for community building and to get me all over Southern Arizona so I can infiltrate spaces not normally occupied by Indigenous women.
Unfortunately, my 2014 Kia Soul, purchased brand new, off the lot and which only has 109,000 miles on it and which I still owe 2 years of payments on, is in need of a new engine.
This bump in the road feels like a mountain for my family. It is an unexpected expense that could keep me out of community spaces for months. This impacts my voter outreach efforts on my reservation; my annual holiday sock drive at an alternative high school; my membership on several democratic committees and caucuses; and a couple of competitive candidate training opportunities that I have recently committed to - after years of actively avoiding them.
I am a dues paying, #RedForEd public school educator, a co-founder of Indivisible Tohono - a grassroots community organization that focuses on education and civic engagement, and a writer who addresses systemic racism, oppression and economic inequality in my writing. You can read my most recent piece here:Rez For Ed, Teacher Walk-Outs on Arizona Tribal Reservations, UCLA Law Review
I am a working class individual trying to build a movement towards positive changes in my community and I don’t want my transportation situation to impact the momentum.
I need your help to get back on the road.
Please donate, if you can. Everything is appreciated.
If you can’t donate, you can still help by liking, commenting or sharing my post.
