Our dear mate and longtime Byron Bay FC comrade, Gabe, recently took a nasty hit during a soccer match against Casino on Saturday, snapping both bones in his shin. True to form, he took it like an absolute champ.

Thanks to the incredible work of the ambos—who got to him with the green whistle within about an hour—he was safely transported to Lismore Base Hospital. He underwent surgery yesterday, is currently recovering well, and is hopefully heading home tomorrow!

While he is on the mend, he is still in a lot of pain and faces a long road ahead. It will be at least 8 weeks before he can stand, work, and fend for himself.

The Impact

As the owner and head barber at Jack the Snipper in the Industrial Estate, Gabe’s injury puts him completely out of work for the foreseeable future. Being unable to stand means his business and livelihood will take a significant financial hit during this time.

On top of being unable to work, Gabe won't be able to cook, clean, or manage daily tasks on his own, meaning he will need plenty of support from our community while he heals.
