In October 2024, Cosmica Productions completed filming for a powerful horror-drama short film titled EX MEMORIA. For those who are new to the project, let me introduce you:
With the onset of the Me Too Movement, the shifting climate of how society responds to sexual abuse has empowered many survivors to share their stories. Drawing from my own experiences dealing with child sexual abuse and C-PTSD, my hope was, and continues to be, to shed light on the ripple effects of sexual trauma.
Logline: After returning to her childhood home following her parents' death, Isabelle grapples with haunting hallucinations that uncover a history of sexual abuse at the hands of her father. Despite her desperate attempts to suppress the past, she ultimately loses grasp on reality and becomes entrapped by her traumatic memories.
We are proud to say that our production was predominantly female-led, in addition to being partnered with Hire Survivors Hollywood, a non-profit advocacy organization founded by Weinstein Silence Breaker Sarah Ann Masse. The organization works to end career retaliation against survivors of sexual violence by increasing employment opportunities for survivors and by creating a safer, more equitable entertainment industry for all.
Why the GFM? As many of you have also experienced, shooting independent film in Los Angeles has become sadly unsustainable. EX MEMORIA suffered a massive financial hit due to the unexpected and excessive permit requirements (yes, they really are killing indie filmmaking). The permit office put us in an impossible financial chokehold. We had to choose between taking the financial hit and moving forward or shelving the entire production. With so many hardworking, talented people onboard, locations locked and paid for, many other expenses already invested, and a story that we felt was deeply necessary to tell, we chose to move forward. While it was the right choice, doing so has left us in a small, but unexpected deficit for post-production.
We are currently halfway through the edit (and the film is cutting together more beautifully than I could have ever imagined), but we are now just $5k short of reaching our post-production goal. Without these funds, we are unable to move forward in order to complete the film in time to submit to the film festivals we have planned for and anticipated. So hi! We’ve put together this fundraiser to help us cross the final finish line.
We kindly ask you to help us bring this timely and necessary film fully to fruition. Art is more important than ever. Any donations and shares are greatly appreciated ❤️
