Please help Mickey.
8 years ago Mickey retired from the Fire service, after over 30 years of dedicated service to the public as a Firefighter and a valued and respected manager to his peers.
On retirement he followed is dream of living in Spain , and integrating into the Spanish community.
Since living in Spain He has continually paid for medical insurance to cover him should he ever need it.
In May this year he underwent a hip replacement in Spain. He paid for the ‘parts’ (ie the new hip) and the insurance covered the hospital stay and the medication etc. Everything went well.
In early October Mickey fell very ill, and on 10th October he was rushed back to hospital with a serious infection that had formed in the hip area, he had lost a lot of blood.
The insurance company agreed that he could be treated at the same hospital where he had the hip surgery.
With the infection in a serious position, doctors recommended a 10 day stay to receive intravenous antibiotics throughout the day to try and fight the infection.
After 5 days in hospital the insurance company informed the hospital they were only paying for 3 days stay and would not cover any of the ongoing medications and tests at all.
Mickey couldn’t afford to stay in hospital and had no choice but to go home with a huge bill, and still with a serious infection whilst waiting for the next operation.
Today he has returned to hospital for a further operation to reopen the hip and investigate the hip joint again. Removing some parts/ possibly all the hip and starting again.
There is the potential that Mickey will not be able to weight bare for many weeks / months following this surgery.
The operation and a few days in hospital are covered under his insurance but the parts/ medication and further much needed days in hospital are not.
Mickey’s medical bills are running into thousands and he cannot afford to stay in hospital for the advised duration after today’s surgery.
We , his closest friends are trying to raise money and keep him in hospital where he needs to be for as long as it takes for him to get better and fight this serious infection.
Please, if you are able to help, your donation to this cause is greatly appreciated.
