Hi, my name is Eryn and earlier this year, I became the lucky recipient of a liver transplant. My need for a new liver was sudden so I am incredibly grateful to all the people who made the transplant possible - from my donor to my surgeons to my friends and family. And now I want to pay it forward.
Prior to the transplant, I was training to run a marathon -- my 9th. Post transplant, I’m still able to run but have had to adjust my training and goals a bit. As part of that, I’m now working to compete in the biggest 5K of my life: I’ve been selected to represent Team USA at the World Transplant Games in Perth, Australia in April 2023. This is more than a competition. It’s an event that promotes organ donation, encourages people worldwide to register and support donation; and helps recipients improve their health and fitness around their transplanted organ.
The Games take place April 15 - 21. My event, the 5K road race, is April 16. The cost of travel, lodging and food is about $5,000. Any financial help to get to Perth is much appreciated. Any extra money raised will be donated to Donate Life New York and the National Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education.
