Hello Everyone!

My name is Eli McNair. I’m a high honor 8th grade student at South Middle School in Newburgh NY. During the year I’m involved in many different clubs and activities like band, chorus, and GEAR UP which are provided by my school district.

On March 21st I participated in the regional spelling competition against 25 peers from surrounding districts (Chester, Cornwall, Goshen, Minisink Valley, Monroe-Woodbury, Port Jervis, Valley Central, Warwick Valley, and Washingtonville) at Orange Ulster BOCES. Out of those 25 students I Won first place! Which is super amazing!!

Now I’m headed to the Washington, DC area on May 25th - 31st to compete against 200 spellers from across the country and around the world in the National SCRIPPS Spelling Bee. I’m very nervous but also very excited!

Spot light: Some of you may not be aware that this trip to SCRIPPS National Spelling Bee is not funded through the NECSD (Newburgh Enlarged City School District). SCRIPPS is providing a 6-night stay at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland for students competing in the National Bee. With that being said we are asking for your help. We are trying to raise $2,000 for transportation and other expenses during this trip.
