David was living in his car until it was totaled.

Hello. My name is Sean and I’m . . . Raising funds for a man who has done so much for our community in Los Angeles. I met David about 20 years ago in the Log Cabin in West Hollywood. And over the years David taught me how to be an active member of the community, how being selfless strengthens my sobriety, and how to get to LAX and completely avoid the 405.
I have spent New Years with him, watched a movie in a graveyard, and stopped along the way to pick up someone who needed a ride to a meeting, and sometimes that person didn’t want to go until David jovially got him to agree to get in the car. I learned how to tell someone who was really wanting to relapse that I’d join them and we could relapse together! But maybe not just then, can we wait just one day? I have an appointment at noon tomorrow I don’t want to miss. I learned to suggest keeping your AAniversary coin in your mouth and when it dissolved then you were free to drink. And I learned to listen patiently while being told the same story AGAIN.
David’s troubles began a couple years ago when his grumpy landlord died and the new owners evicted him from his over-the-garage studio sanctuary. David has been essentially homeless since then. It breaks my heart to think about him without his collection of memorabilia of a life of service surrounding his bed and couch that he so freely allowed literally hundreds if not thousand of people spend the night when they had no where to turn. For the last several months David has been waiting for some elder housing to become available and using his car to earn a little additional income and to be the place he often spent the night, not wanting to burden anyone. Since I’ve known him, his car is central to him. He happily navigates the streets arteries of Los Angeles County like a red blood cel making his way away from and toward the heart. Continuously. His knowledge of the LA byways exceeds that of Waze. And his car has always been a vehicle for him to demonstrate his love to me and thousands of others who needed a ride or something delivered.
David recently was involved in an accident that totaled his car/apartment/heart. He is without a way to earn money, to sleep comfortably, and to get to meetings. For this man who has donated so much of his time and his gasoline in the service of others I am making an appeal to help David get a different car. He doesn’t need nor want anything fancy. Something comfortable for his tall frame, something gas efficient, and a car that is mechanically sound. Any extra we may receive we will put toward his insurance for it.
Please find it in your heart to give an amount, any amount will be appreciated and put toward this worthy cause. And please share this link to every meeting phone list and social media account you have. So many of us love this selfless man and appreciate all he has done for us. Share, share, share.
