Christine Draper needs to get her son to Australia to start his final year at school and get the support he needs as a pupil with learning support needs (he has profound dyspraxia and ASD).
Force Majeure
Christine set this plan in motion a year ago, before the COVID pandemic became a disruptive issue to international travel. She booked flight tickets and had everything in place to fly from the UK to Australia at the beginning of January 2021, but her flights were cancelled by the country she was transiting through.
Unexpected and prohibitively expensive costs
Now the only flights that are available are suddenly twice the price and she simply can't afford it. Christine writes books like My Friend Josh has Dyspraxia; My Friend Jake has Autism: A book to explain autism to children; My Friend Josh has DCD: A Picture Book to Help Your Child Understand Developmental Coordination Disorder and more. Unfortunately, the sale of these books does not bring in enough extra income on top of her humble teaching salary to accommodate the additional costs of flight prices that have suddenly doubled overnight. Christine is also the single income generator for her family.

What will the funds be spent on?
The funds raised in this campaign will be used to help top up on the budget she has already allocated to the flight costs to get her family back to Australia. The funds will be spent on flight tickets only.

Timing
Christine needs to get her son back to Australia as early as possible in January 2021, to be able to get through the quarantine isolation period in time to get him into school in time for the start of the school year, which starts in January 2021 in Australia (Southern hemisphere has a different school cycle to northern hemisphere countries).
Helping those in need
As a friend and a mastermind support colleague, we have witnessed how Christine has continuously demonstrated her commitment and service to children and people with neurodivergent learning needs. This work is not economically attractive and yet she has persevered and remained deeply committed and personally invested in it.
Irony
We have witnessed the stress and heartbreak associated with coming so close to being able to provide her son with what he needs in his final year at school only to have it snatched away by a situation that is beyond what Christine could ever have anticipated or planned for. Here's the irony - Christine helps so many others and now she can't help her own son at a critical point in time when the timing is everything.
You can make a difference today
All Christine needs is some help to bridge the gap between the flight ticket prices she had already paid for (and that were cancelled) and the price of the only remaining flights that can get her and her son back home from the UK to Australia, so that he can get the additional education help he needs.
