Get Carolina YDSA to our Winter Conference in SF!
Hi everyone, we're the UNC Chapel Hill chapter of the Young Democratic Socialists of America. If you're in the Chapel Hill area, you may have heard of us through our campaign to improve mental healthcare at UNC, our strike-support fundraisers, our recent Socialism 101 event, or our support for the the anti-fascist rally last spring and the rally in support of Dr. Blasey Ford and survivors of sexual assault, among other issues. If you're outside the area, then maybe you know us as one chapter in a larger organization dedicated to fighting for the needs of people over profit.
Every winter, the national YDSA has a winter conference, an exciting opportunity for young organizers around the country to connect and learn from each other, so that we can push forward on ambitious campaigns, like Free College for All. This year, the conference is in San Franciscofrom Feb. 15th to 17th. We in Carolina YDSA are super excited about the conference, especially to apply what we learn at the national level to our local, unique position in the south - but we need your help.
Since we're on the opposite side of the country, we have to use air travel to get there, and since we're broke college students from working class families, we can't afford to buy plane tickets on our own. Besides partial coverage from travel scholarships, we're raising $3000 to cover the costs of tickets for 8 students. Tickets are $375 each (but prices may change before we purchase them).
In the event that we raise more than our target amount or have funds leftover from our ticket purchases, all remaining proceeds will go to the Take Action Chapel Hill Anti-Racist Fund , a vital resource for defending organizers/activists arrested in anti-Silent Sam/white supremacy protests.
