Our great friend, Brendan McMullen lost his awesome mom, Amanda, to a brain cancer Thursday July 20th. Here she is supporting Brendan at a Roller Derby match when he lived in New York 5 years ago.
As many of you know, upon Amanda's diagnosis 7 months ago Brendan dropped everything in LA , packed his dogs up and drove across country to take care of her 24/7 in Ithaca NY. If you are friends with Brendan on Facebook you've seen his tender and unfiltered posts about the experience nursing his mother through chemo and eventually experiencing her death. His care for her was an amazing and completely selfless act of love. He really rose to the challenge with grace and humor and a deep kindness that I think we all hope we too would have in the same situation.
Brendan's mom left no estate except her car, which she still has payments left on. Brendan is planning on just letting the bank take the car, but I know he would like to finish the payments and keep the car she loved so much. He hasn't worked in 7 months and didn't have any money to begin with! Let's help him do that!
I know Brendan from performing improv with him, as i'm sure many of you around the New York comedy scene in the mid 2000's do. You may also know Brendan from Roller Derby in New York or LA, or his photography work. Brendan throws himself fully into every passion he has and his friendships are no different. I know Brendan has come through for me as a friend in hard times, and I hope we can put a little something together for him.
Beyond the car, I know Brendan will need some money to get back to LA, find new digs to rent, and padding to find a new job.
Brendan never squanders money. I know any amount will be not only needed but deeply appreciated.
