We are raising funds to get our darling dog, Bonny a much needed operation on her back left leg which has a grade 4 luxating patella which is causing her chronic pain, reducing her ability to walk, run and play and effecting her quality of life.
Bonny is a sweet and tiny Pomeranian, weighing only 2kg. We think she is about 4 or 5 years old and she was adopted from china in March 2023. Although we don’t know her full life story we do know at the time she was rescued she was being held at a puppy farm with lots of others dogs, kept in a cage and being used only for breeding. Here is a link to her rescue video https://www.instagram.com/reel/Che9N48Fl0X?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y%253D . We aren’t sure which one Bonny is in this but you can gauge the conditions she was living in.
From the moment she landed in my arms and came to her forever home we have witnessed her come out of her shell and blossom as she finally found a safe place with safe people. Unfortunately, it was evident from the beginning that her back legs weren’t right, she would sometimes limp and if she got really excited or anxious she collapsed on her back legs. At her first vet check-up they diagnosed her with luxating patella’s on both legs. This meant that she didn’t qualify to have treatment on the pet insurance as it was considered a pre-existing condition. Nevertheless I paid for her to have x-rays to look into it further and was told she had grade 4 on the left leg and grade 3 on the right.
I was quoted £3500 for one leg to be operated on and that was without check up appointments and medications. After some research I found the Animal Trust in Shrewsbury offer the same operation for a price of £1019. In March this year we set off to wales to get her treated. As luck would have it, we broke down on the motorway and my car was a write off. I’d already lost money on the accommodation and referrals and now needed to get a new car. Financially it was no longer possible to do it all and so we put the operation on hold.
Recently we have noticed Bonny’s leg seems to be getting worse. She’s started hopping or she’ll just stop and sit down with her poorly leg sticking out to one side. Sometimes she will get a burst of energy and run along the beach only to collapse on her back legs and need to be carried.
We’ve decided her operation needs to happen sooner rather than later and so we wanted to reach out to family, friends and our communities to ask for a donation to help us get Bonny’s leg fixed so she can live a happy, healthy life and run along the beach, play with her step-brother Ernie and enjoy her new life in Margate to the fullest!
Costs:
New Referral fee: £100
Operation: £1019
We are waiting to find out if there are any additional follow up appointment, medication and recovery fees.
Any support would be greatly appreciated and we will keep you updated with her treatment and progress if we reach our target.
