Give the gift of gab back to Betz
Donation protected
Helen Krutak, better known as "Betz" by her family and friends, is the spirited mother of Katie and Jessica. Betz loves cooking, crafting and spoiling her three grandchildren, Nicholaus, Aydan and Elijah. Often described as having the “gift of gab” Betz is unable to speak normally due to a stroke that suddenly stuck her.
Betz was just beginning to enjoy the perks of retirement after 40+ years of working when she woke up on May 4th unable to move or speak. She was rushed to the emergency room of St. Elizabeth's Hospital, where an MRI detected a stroke in her brain stem. Betz suffered an ischemic stroke (blood clot in a blood vessel) which left her paralyzed on the entire right side of her body.
My sister Jessica and I are raising funds to help our mom get the care she needs at an inpatient rehabilitation center in Lincoln, NE. This type of rehab is incredibly expensive but critical to her recovery. We are hopeful with the acute care and rehab she needs, she will regain some mobility on her right side and strengthen her "good" left side enough to to walk again.
Everyone who knows Betz knows her kindness, and generosity. Betz is a people person, always wanting to chat and enjoy the company of others. We want to make sure she has the speech therapy needed to restore her “Chatty Cathy” ways.
All funds raised through this site will support Betz's rehabilitation cost. The first three months after a stroke are critical for recovery and improvement. Betz is currently in the progressive care unit at St. Elizabeth's Hospital and will remain here until a rehabilitation center is available for inpatient care.
Betz is determined to walk again, and she can with the rehabilitation recommended by her team of doctors and nurses. Mom, my sister and our family, thank you for your spirit of giving during this challenging time.
