My name is Beau, and I’m a musician living in Orlando, Florida. I’m also trans. My life got a lot better when I was honest and transitioned.

Two weeks away from my scheduled top surgery date, insurance ripped the rug out from under me and said that my surgery had been classified as a “coverage exemption” due to it being for gender affirmation. In order to keep my surgery date, I’ve got to pay out of pocket by next week’s due date.

As things ramp up here in the US and in Florida, the urgency of getting this done while it’s still available to me is palpable.

I would love to feel more at home in my body and not pay so many chiropractor bills, as binding is tough on the ribs and the anxiety/vertigo combo I get from dysphoria is worth the structural impact. I spend every evening out on the town and every day at school counting hours to minimize that impact, bringing extra clothes to change into once I’ve passed the safe number of hours to wear a binder (or until the rib pain becomes concerning). I would love to not do that anymore.
