Getting Barbara Back on her Feet Again
Donation protected
On Friday 11/26, there was a freak accident at a dog park. Barbara Papamarcos was seriously injured when a stranger's 150-pound dog barreled into her, sending her to the ground with a shattered leg and a broken wrist. Barbara has already had a successful surgery for her wrist fractures, along with a temporary leg fixation while she awaits the second surgery to reconstruct her right leg.
While we are very hopeful that Barbara will make a full recovery and be back to her fully active self after this devastating and painful experience, the healing process will take time and money. While all the details are not yet clear, Barbara will likely be hospitalized initially for at least 10 days. During this time, she will undergo operations to reduce and set her wrist fractures, externally fix and stabilize the leg, and finally to reconstruct the right leg. She will likely then be transferred to an inpatient facility specializing in trauma rehabilitation for an unknown duration. Here, she will receive 3 hours of daily physical therapy. After this, she will need months of home care and nursing, and she will be unable to work. While her initial recovery time is estimated to be at least 6 months, it is likely it could be a year before she is mostly back to normal. We are hopeful that she’ll be able to walk a mile in April.
We know Barbara has friends near and far who love her dearly and want to help. This GoFundMe campaign has been set up to reduce her financial burden. If you would like to make a contribution to this fund to help with Barbara's recovery, it would be much appreciated. The funds will go directly to Barbara to help pay for hospital and other medical bills, home care, and home modifications not covered by insurance, and possibly some art supplies to help keep our dear friend in good spirits as she recovers. Barbara is blessed to have her two amazing children, Marie & Kevin, her Wisconsin relatives, and her local community to help with her day to day needs. All donations to this campaign will help her with all of the other needs.
Barbara remains positive and in good spirits, and she is determined to make a full recovery. Thanks so much for considering helping her in this way.
