Get Barbara back on horses

Donation protected

On Thursday (Oct 27), Barb and I were returning from Albany where we had gone to visit my mother before before heading  to the Virgin Islands for the winter. Since we were being hit by an early snowstorm, we left early and took it slow in Barb's little Miata. While on the highway, we got a flat tire and proceded to pull way over on the breakdown lane, put on the flashers, kept our seatbelts fastened and waited for AAA to arrive.

I was looking at the progress of the the tow truck on my phone as Barb was turned toward me to show me a picture of horses on her phone. The next thing I remember, a state police officer was shining a light in my eyes. I looked over at Barb and she was concious but not responding. Come to find out, a driver lost control in the snow and careened into us going 65 mph. I was told that I had been unconscious for 20 minutes. Since Barb was facing me, the side of her head sustained the impact to the headrest.  When I woke, I looked over at Barb, she was awake but not responsive. She had been that way for the same 20 minutes.
When she was put in the ambulance, she became combative as her brain began to swell. She had a seizure and was restrained and sedated to keep her from doing any more damage.  For the next 3 days, Barb was in restraints as she would try to pull out her IVs and thrash around. On Sunday, the breathing tube was removed and she was able to breathe on her own.

Since then, she's made progress every day but is a long way from being the girl we all know and love.
Today, I found out that the insurance company cannot gaurentee that they will pay the hospital bills or the rehabilitation hospital bills. They want to wait until Barbara has been released from all care and then they will review the bills to see if they want to pay any of them!
I'm at a loss as to how this can happen but I have to play with the cards that I have.
Barbara is being moved tomorrow, Saturday, November 5 to Sunny View Rehabilitation Hospital. They have a Tramatic Brain Injury acute therapy  program that has been recommended for Barbara which costs $2,000 a day.
We ask that people "like" and "share" this on Facebook.
I thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers for Barbara's speedy recovery and hope she'll be riding Nemo again soon!
