Amanda: A Guardian Angel on Wheels
Amanda is the kind of person who sees a need and fills it. Whether it's driving her aunt to chemo appointments in Boston at Dana Farber, taking elderly neighbors to pick up prescriptions or grocery shop as they have no transportation and no one else to help, driving an hour each way to care for a convalescing friend or often spending her entire Saturday driving hours in heavy New England traffic to pick Southern cats up off of transport and ferry them to rescues in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine, or going on the road South, often overnight, to pick up kitties from the Carolinas that need out ASAP from kill shelters or risk being euthanized, late night or early morning Red Eye flights arriving into Boston Logan & Manchester NH Airports, helping with her driving superpowers and cat-like Ninja reflexes, often with no time to arrange ground or flight transports and very little sleep (but always a giant pail of iced coffee!) or due to weather issues such as blinding snowstorms & tropical storms if a kitty is in need, Amanda is there. She never makes excuses; she simply makes it happen. Typically to the paw count of 1200-1400 kitties ANNUALLY!
The common denominator in all of her good works is her trusty vehicle that she maintains immaculately with every suggested maintenance need such as oil changes, tire rotations and so forth, quite unexpectedly without warning of any kind, and after putting just over 200,000 miles on it in the service of others, it's currently out of commission needing a new transmission. Both her mechanic along with a second mechanic she often consults with that knows Honda's both concur that this new transmission replacement is definitely well worth replacing, especially since the car is fully paid for. The engine is solid and reliable. Just this pesky and pricey transmission repair, at a time when Amanda will simultaneously be down for the count herself for approximately 1 month after she has soldiered on for over a year now, in need of a hip replacement, that she now can no longer wait to have done as she has hip fractures that weren't there before, the timing of her trusty little bright yellow Kitty Uber (& humans she adores and helps) also needing a bit of "surgery" couldn't come at both a better and worse time collectively.
We, the rescuers and friends who admire & love Amanda for all she does for kitties and everyone else too while NEVER asking for help herself, are asking for your support to help cover the cost of the new transmission so Amanda can get back on the road and continue her invaluable work, providing transportation for people and rescued animals in need. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference and help Amanda return to her mission of helping others and as she calls them, "her precious mini-muffins". Thank you!!
