Hi my name is jennifer and I am fundraising for my mother who has recently had a stroke at the age of 51. Both myself and my sister have recently moved out leaving just my parents and their dogs in a home that is not accessible.

My mum has just turned 51 (having her birthday in the hospital unfortunately) and has limited speech and mobility. She was a immensely independent woman before this and was the clear matriach of the family, this tradgegy has changed the dynamics of our family and her role in it indefinitely. She now becomes very confused and frustrated whilst trying to communicate with family, it has been a few weeks now and she still cannot umprompted remember the names of me and her husband. She cannot walk or transfer between bed and chair independently and is not able to safely use bathroom facilities alone. I am sure you can imagine the strain that can place her.

The funds would be used to pay for the equipment needed to make our home accessible. Mum will need a stair lift installed for definite and a downstairs bathroom installed even if temporary as well as safety assitance rails on the landing and bathroom upstairs. We are thinking that she may also need ramps fitted, a wheelchair, walker and potentially equipment to support progress with physiotherapy as we are unaware of what support we will be able to get following our applications to the local council. This all is going to cost us alot and any support would be appreciate greatly and put to good use. We fear that she will not be able to return to work for a while if at all and therefore are concerned about financing all of these things with only one set of income.

These supports would give her her life and independence back, speed up her recovery and relieve the pressure on the rest of the family who are doing all that they can to support her rehabiliation. I myself work as a primary school teacher and will be undertaking alot of the carer responsibilities as well as my dad but will be unlikely to get a allowance to support with the payments for these items as I do not live full time with them.
