Help John and Sylvana after the loss of their home
Donación protegida
We are Chloe and Saskia. As many of you know, our dad, John and his wife, Sylvana's beautiful mid-century modern home in Altadena burnt down yesterday in the Eaton wildfire. Everything happened so quickly that they left in a panic without anything - not even passports, laptops, medication or any of Sylvana's beautiful artwork. It was dark, the power had cut out and they were afraid for their safety. They are now safe, but they have lost pretty much everything they own, which I'm sure you can imagine is shocking and devastating.
The house was insured, but as many of you may know, the insurance payout is unlikely to be anywhere near the value of the house and all the belongings. Many of the belongings aren't replaceable anyway - like all the art and fencing medals etc. It's going to be a while before we know what the insurance situation is because it's still not safe to go there as the fire is still not contained...
Our dad is 71 and survived sepsis followed by a stroke in 2020. He dealt with all of that with his amazing positive attitude, philosophical approach and sense of humor in-tact and he and Sylvana are now both trying to make sense of what's happened in this awful turn of events.
A few friends have asked if there's anything they can do as a gesture of support. My sister and I are thinking maybe lots of small gestures might combine to help them maybe buy a few essential items or rent an Airbnb for a few nights or something, until the situation reveals itself more clearly.
There will be people far worse off as a result of these fires, so please don't feel under any obligation or pressure, but it might be nice to help them feel loved, cared for and supported by those of us who would like to participate.
Thank you!
