We offer way higher than average royalties, believing that creators deserve a living wage for the work they produce. We offer complete creative control over design and a partnership approach to every project we produce. Gestalt Media has sought from the beginning to overturn the predatory ways that are rampant in the publishing industry and I hope we're doing a great job at that. Our authors always come first.
Here's a video we made in February before all this craziness began.
Our first campaign was a charitable anthology featuring Stephen King and Neil Gaiman. We took nothing in profit because that's the right thing to do and we will always stand by that principle. It is our goal to support everyone we can in any way we can and sometimes that means asking for help when you're used to being the one providing it.
Now the world is in turmoil. Publishing is an extremely low margin business and we're still very young. In this economy, we're looking at making decisions that will affect the lives of our authors. Authors who are facing layoffs in their own families, illness and uncertainty just like all of us.
It's my job to do whatever I can to protect these people. I made the promise to nurture and grow their careers. And so it's my responsibility to make sure they're not left out in the cold. I am asking for the funds we need to keep our authors on contract and meet our obligations for the next six months. To keep Gestalt Media's doors open while we figure out how to weather this storm. To provide much-needed assistance to our authors when they need it most.
I don't want to tell them we have to pivot away from high overhead business and shut them out at this time of upheaval. We will survive, GM is strong and I know we'll all make it through to the other side. I believe if we can stay open, we can continue to make sales and our authors will continue to receive royalties that might make a vital difference in uncertain times. This is what we can do.
Anything we make over that goal I intend to distribute directly to our authors as cash payments to help ease the stress I know we're all facing right now. Intuit, Yelp & GoFundMe have agreed to match up to $500 of anything we make so every dollar really does count. Please consider supporting small businesses that are struggling hardest to find a way in this storm.
If you can't donate, please share this message and if you see someone you can help, in any way, remember, we're all in this together and we're going to make it through by relying on each other.
