As a young black woman, traveling to Spain will be my first time stepping outside of Springfield, Massachusetts and experiencing the world on my own.
I love traveling, seeing new places, and learning new things. This summer, the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), has given me a full scholarship to participate in their “Spanish Language and Culture in Barcelona, Spain Program”.
Traveling to Barcelona, Spain is an experience that promises to push me out of my comfort zone and foster personal growth. Barcelona is a city steeped in history and culture. It offers a unique opportunity for me to immerse myself in a new and unfamiliar environment.
For many people, the language barrier in Barcelona can be a significant challenge. And though I'm nervous about going to a Spanish speaking country, without knowing much Spanish myself, I am excited to learn the language while exploring the beautiful sites Spain has to offer.
This trip forces me out of my comfort zone in many ways; from navigating unfamiliar streets, to trying street food, and engaging with unfamiliar customs. Each experience presents an opportunity to grow exponentially. Exploring the city's bustling markets, such as La Boqueria, or venturing into Spain's narrow, winding streets will allow me to embrace spontaneity and cultivate a spirit of adventure. By challenging the familiar, and embracing the unknown, I can develop a greater sense of independence and self-reliance, ultimately leading to personal growth and self-discovery.
Below are the expenses that I am raising money for :
2, 500$ - Covers the Flight to Europe
1, 000$ - Pocket Money
1,000$ - Emergency Funds
