On August 6, 2023, my father, Gert Muller was involved in a severe car accident near Mooinooi, South Africa, following an afternoon of golf.
The incident occurred on a poorly lit road when a semi-truck unexpectedly crossed his path. The collision resulted in extensive injuries, including a damaged C5 vertebra and significant trauma to the lower half of his body. Fortunately, a neighbor witnessed the accident and promptly called for emergency assistance. Within 20 minutes, he was rescued from the wreckage and rushed to the hospital.
The impact left him unconscious, and the odds of survival were grim. Miraculously, after 35 days in a medically induced coma, he defied the odds and woke up.
Since awakening, he has undergone three surgeries, with more on the horizon, leading to accumulating medical expenses. The accident has left him disabled, relying on a wheelchair or walking aid, and in need of constant assisted care and ongoing physical therapy.
The journey to recovery is both physically and financially demanding My father has always been the primary provider and caregiver for his mother, but the accident rendered him unable to return to work, and the recovery process has now depleted emergency funds. He faces the financial strain of medical bills and living expenses during this challenging period.
As he faces these challenges, our ultimate goal is to see my father regain the ability to walk, drive, and provide for his family again.
