German Torres, Essential Worker Taken by Covid 19
Donation protected
On Sunday, April 25th, after a six week battle with Covid-19, we lost a dear friend, husband, father, brother and grandfather. German was just 56 years old. He was previously a healthy man.
German immigrated from Elsalvador, to Canada, in hopes of finding a better life for his family. He was incredibly grateful for the life he lived here.
German owned and managed his own residential painting business for decades. As a self-employed essential worker and primary earner for his family, German worked continuously throughout the year-long pandemic. Tragically, in March, German contracted COVID-19 while working, the virus infecting both him and his household.
He was a dedicated, honest, kind-hearted, and generous man. He brought joy to everyone he worked alongside. His beloved family, for whom he was the patriarch, the provider and caretaker, are in utter disbelief.
In this loss, it is clear that this deadly virus robs us of human dignity in deaths journey. With Covid-19, the minute you enter the hospital, you are severed from your family and friends, and are subjected to the horror of a lonely and isolated illness and death. German was by himself, with no one allowed to be by his side to support him, love him, talk to him or even just hold his hand.
His battle in the hospital lasted 40 days or 960 hours. Only in the final hour, was his family able to be by his side. For 959 hours he fought alone.
German leaves behind a wife, two daughters, and two young grandchildren. We implore you to please help ease the family’s financial burden, as they grapple with the loss of their loved one, along with their primary source of income. We hope these efforts will enable them to grieve peacefully without the threat of severe financial strain and debt.
Please keep German and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this heartbreaking and difficult time.
