Gera's Breast Cancer Journey

Update 5/5/25:

Hey y'all, quick update on Gera. After her diagnosis and surgery, she lost her two subcontracted jobs. Since then, she has been working hard not only to heal, but also to get back on her feet. This past week, she had another surgery, which was not as extensive as the first one, but she is again looking at a loss of income and needing medical supplies. Any little bit helps. She is also thankful for all of the kind words and prayers. Thanks to everyone who has donated. So far, 59% of her goal has been reached! Those funds have gone towards medical bills and medications and have helped to cover her living expenses. She wouldn't have been able to do it without your help. Thanks again!!

Hi everyone,

I am starting this GoFundMe for my dear friend Gera Kirkland. Gera is a self-employed artist in New Orleans. She is one of the most selfless people I have ever met. She is constantly putting the needs of others before herself. She is an avid animal lover and rescues/fosters animals. Unfortunately, Gera was diagnosed with stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma in September. Right before her diagnosis, she was dropped from Medicaid. This cancer diagnosis has been not only an emotional hardship but also a financial one as well. On October 30, 2023, she had a mastectomy with double flap reconstruction. She was in the hospital for 4 days after surgery. She continues to have follow up appointments and waiting to determine if chemotherapy/radiation will be needed. Sadly, most of the healthcare costs are falling on her and her husband of 20 years, Brandon. I am trying to help offload some of the financial burden this has caused as Gera has been unable to work and will be out of commission for some time. I am asking for donations to help with medical bills and help Gera get back on her feet while battling cancer. Thank you for your support. It does not go unnoticed.
