Gerard Burdge Flood Recovery Fund
Donation protected
In Rutland VT, on August 4th we got 5 inches of rain in an hour causing the flood.
The flood waters rose so fast with the sewer being over-taxed first then the river jumping over the wall behind the house that it was impossible to have enough time to save anything in its path.
My son went down into the basement to try and save anything but by that point, it was up to his lower chest, and the basement windows all burst in like rivers and I wanted him out of there before he risked getting hurt.
The water got so high that it even went over both our front and back porches.
After that, the sewer waters got into my first floor and we along with our families pets were evacuated via boat.
I Live on the first floor, my Son & his GF live on the 2nd floor and my nephew lives on the 3rd floor.
We lost most of our sentimental items stored down in our basement, The flood waters got up into my apartment wrecking 80% of my stuff. furniture, clothes, space heaters lots of things sadly.
We were able to save what I had hung up on walls and high enough up on shelves but the rest is gone Including my stove and fridge and all the food in it. We also lost the washer and dryer for the building and possibly the stoves and fridges on the 2nd and 3rd floors too due to a possible power surge(but we are not sure about those yet as we can't test to see if they still work.)
The Red Cross sadly said they couldn't help any of us except me. But then with my situation, they considered my damage to be "Minor" and gave me a whole 350 bucks period. I am grateful for that at least but seems like most of these "helpful numbers" they give you to contact just refer you to other "helpful numbers" who then just refer you to other "Helpful Numbers"...
My Family and I are displaced from our home for 2 months or more due to the massive amount of repairs needed.
We are waiting to hear back if FEMA can help us with anything but for now, my Son has set up this Go Fund to help me replace what I can. Any help at all even a dollar makes for one less dollar I have to try and desperately find somewhere else. Anything I can raise from this will be used to replace:
Furniture, clothing, bedding, dishes, food, appliances: Fridge, Stove, and everything else destroyed in sewage water, etc.
The funds will go straight to my account.
Grateful for any help,
- Gerry & Hershey
