Our youngest daughter, Lumin, has been living with a large, symptomatic pineal cyst deep in the center of her brain. After years of persistent and worsening symptoms, the time has come for her to undergo brain surgery, a craniotomy scheduled for August 13th at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

While we’re deeply thankful that she’s finally receiving the care she needs, the journey comes with significant financial challenges. Travel, lodging, meals, parking, and lost income.

We are incredibly blessed to have kind and generous people in our lives, including our dear friends, Jessica and Josh, who are opening their home to us in Charleston and helping ease the burden of lodging during Lumin’s recovery. But there are still expenses we can’t avoid: hotels during the drive to and from South Carolina, gas, meals, parking, and some lost income from traveling.

In true Lumin fashion, she’s approaching this major surgery with humor. She named the cystic mass “Gerald,” and we all agree it’s time for Gerald to go.
