Geo's Emergency Surgery
Donation protected
On New Year’s day morning (1/1/2019), I found Geo, our overly affectionate tuxedo cat, hiding under the bed. I picked him up and immediately noticed how weak he was. He was not purring as he usually does. I brought him over to his water bowl and he just dropped his head inside the water. He didn’t eat or drink. He felt cold to the touch. I wrapped him in my towel, and laid with him while my husband and I discussed our options.
Since it was a major holiday, most vets offices were closed, except for an emergency clinic in Forest Hills. So we drove there with the hopes that Geo was just experiencing a cold. The exceptionally experienced doctors at Blue Pearl Veterinary Partnership immediately diagnosed his condition. He had a blocked urinary tract, for reasons yet unknown, but likely due to kidney stones., he probably hadn’t been able to relieve himself in days.
The doctors were also concerned with his irregular heart beat and shallow breathing, side effects of his kidneys being stressed close to their limit. In other words, the doctor explained to us, Geo was in critical condition, and if we waited much more time he would likely die.
Now, although we had just paid for annual insurance for all of our 3 furry babies, it will not cover Geo’s emergency visit because we are not past the “waiting period”. Between the emergency visit, the surgically placed catheter, the meds, lab analyses, xrays, 2 day ICU stay and countless of other tests, we’re already looking at $5500 in bills. So far he seems to be responding well, but we have to wait and see if he needs further treatment. As you might imagine, it’s been a roller coaster of a couple of days on a few levels, and we’re not sure how to handle things. We thought we might ask for help from our friends.
We are grateful for everyone who is able to donate to help with Geo’s medical costs. Any amount is appreciated.
