Please help Georgina with medical skin removal

Hi, my name is Kathy and I am raising funds for my dear friend, Georgina. In the past 4 years Georgina has lost nearly 200lbs all on her own with incredibly hard work!! She changed her diet, started excercising and essentially changed her whole life to ensure that she would there for her 4 daughters. While this sounds amazing, this dream that she had in her mind of what her life would be like after weight loss is more of a nightmare. She now has a huge excess of skin hanging off her body, it causes sores and infections and is so incredibly painful. She now endures more back pain and is less confident than she was when she was incredibly overweight. She should be proud of this accomplishment...she is an inspiration to so many people but she just isn't, due to what she is having to go through now.
She is not eligible for skin removal as she lost weight naturally on her own! Had she gone through bariatric surgery, there would be other options available to her. It just does not make sense, bariatric surgery costs the healthcare system thousands of dollars! As well, if she had stayed obese she would be a continued tax on the healthcare system! She would be at risk for diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure among other medical health issues.
Her doctor has been trying to get her covered for this surgery to no avail. She has saught out many plastic surgeons but they range anywhere from $20-30,000+ and those on the lower end having a waiting list for years!
Global news took on this story and spoke to the head of plastic surgery, who is also a doctor that she met with. He was trying to compare her story to someone who had extra weight due to pregnancy and just wanting to remove the excess skin!!!! This is not the same! It's not a little bit of skin, it is a lot of skin and it is affecting her lifestyle and her mental health!!!! She is not doing this for cosmetic reasons, she is doing this for quality of life. Surgeries are covered in many areas at no cost to Albertans, we shouldn't have to pick and choose who deserves it. In the long run she is saving them a lot of money, all she's asking for is one thing, to feel healthy and not live in pain every single day!!!
After watching her deal with this for so long I decided that it was time to do something about this. Reach out, get her some help and hope that her surgery could be covered in part or even in full....and to maybe make some much needed changes to our health care system.
