As a veterinary student at St. George’s University in Grenada, I have had the privilege of rescuing a remarkable dog named Georgie from the Grenada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA). When Georgie, originally named Starlight, was surrendered by his original owners, he was completely paralyzed in his rear legs and hadn’t urinated in days. He spent a month at the shelter, where we were unsure what life would bring for him.
Determined to help him, I promised the shelter that once my foster puppies were adopted, I would return for Georgie. True to my word, I brought him home. He was so tiny and desperately needed some tender loving care. Throughout my school year, we diligently worked on physical therapy at home, and Georgie made significant progress in moving his legs. He learned to play with my dog and began to experience the joys of puppyhood, even though his back legs remained immobile.
This summer, we flew Georgie home to New Jersey, where he continued his physical therapy and consultations with a neurologist. The next step for Georgie is to get an MRI to determine the underlying cause of his paralysis and to see if it can be treated surgically. However, this is an expensive procedure, and we really need your help! Any donation would bring us one step closer to our goal. Georgie is a little pup full of hope, undeterred by his challenges.
He is the happiest dog you’ll ever meet, full of life and energy. He is hoping for everyone's support so that he may one day walk again.
