Hey y’all! If you know anyone in the Atlanta glass community, you’ll know that ATL Glassworks has to move out of The MET. They are tearing down the buildings to put a hospital in its place. Yay for the community.. big stress for small businesses and artists. For almost a year Day who owns ATL Glassworks has been looking for a new location, she’s finally found a new home for the glass shop! It’s in a great location and has space for the glass shop to grow into over the next few years! Due to circumstances outside of Day’s control there have been delays after delays in getting the space ready to open. The building was an old cafe that was sitting vacant for several years so there was a ton of updating and bringing things up to code & cosmetic stuff to do just to bring it to a blank empty space for it to be the home of the new glass shop! So she’s had to get a new furnace, new plumbing lines, new electrical, inspections, etc. They were so close to the finish line of opening the new shop and then one big last repair has pushed opening back to a couple more weeks. Due to the delays, having to now pay rent on both locations for January & February and other unforeseen expenses, Day has gone through the glass shop’s moving budget & they haven’t even moved yet! Structures still need to be built in the glass shop, paint, moving company, bills and who knows what else we will run into. Her employees Nick and Austin will also go without pay if the shop stays closed so she would like cover payroll expenses. Day tried to make moving the glass shop easier on her employees as well as the folks who have volunteered to help her move by ordering minimal glass supplies the last two orders… and this means glass, If you’ve ever moved a glass studio.. let alone a shop before… it’s intense. What was a gesture of ease thinking they would be moving at the end of December has now turned into my pal stressing out about not having supplies for glass artists throughout Georgia!
Day opened ATL Glassworks in 2021 with nothing but her own personal savings & a mind full of ideas. The glass shop & community has grown so much over the last 4 1/2 years and she is always talking about how proud she is of the glass community & always is gushing over everyone she meets at her shop & gets to chat glass with. She’s the number one cheerleader for all glass artists not only in our community but all over! Shes met so many amazing humans through glass and has done so much for so many folks and I’m here typing all this to hopefully be able to get her & the glass shop some funds to make times just a little easier.
ATL Glassworks is the only glass shop in Georgia so it is very important to a lot of glass artists as well as glass enthusiasts. Glass classes are taught there as well as selling local glass artists work. This is the happiest place on earth for myself and so many more. It’s also my pals whole world. Shes stressing everyday about not having a place for artists to come and get the things they need. Shes not the best at asking for help and never wants to burden anyone but I know this shop is so important to her.
If you’re in the position to be able to spare a few bucks I know she would be forever grateful & then we can all have a big glass shop party and you can see a little glimpse into such a magical community.
Long story short, a small business that employs and provides glass for artists needs our help and you’re all invited to the grand opening when we get there!! All the funds will go to lost income for her employees, rent at both locations, bills at both locations, paint, wood, movers and whatever else has to be repaired/ fixed at the glass shop!
