We are here on behalf of our beloved George who needs lifesaving gender affirming surgery. Asking for help is the worst, so we (with permission) have come here to ask for whatever you can spare to help our friend get the care and then the rest they need. The surgery is beyond important and is also prohibitively expensive to most people because next to none of this HEALTHCARE is covered by Medicare, which is why so many folks need community to step in where our healthcare system fails to.

Everyone who needs this healthcare should be able to access it, but we are here for George. George is such an important part of the Meanjin community and gives so much of themselves to projects & people - to small businesses, other creatives and their friends. They really are one of those rare folk whose unwavering kindness, humour and willingness to work hard for a good cause always leaves people feeling inspired, supported and loved. They are so often the person we call when we need help with something, because they show up without judgment, and often with very good very silly jokes. We know times are tough right now but if you’ve got bucks to spare, even a small amount, we can reach this goal. We believe that in tough times, radical acts of community care can heal us all.

We put this together knowing that not only is the surgery a HUGE cost (the majority of the sum needed) but that after surgery they will need to take a significant amount of time off work to heal. We have factored post-op financial support into this sum. The aim is to allow them the time to rest and recover in peace without the burden of worrying about rent, bills and food, as well as essential post-op appointments.

Phone calls and their spicy brain don’t get along super well so if you’d like to get in contact we’d suggest doing so via the written word.
