**update**
Next Monday George will return to ward 10 at BCH to have his 33 staples removed from his head and Tuesday we will go to the QE for radiotherapy planning. George will be sedated for a CT scan for radiotherapy mapping and have a mask made for treatment.
Treatment will hopefully start on March 16th and alongside the radiotherapy George will have chemotherapy. He will be having cycles for the next 12 months.
George's pathology results came back and the tumor has no name. Its rare and its profile a bit weird. It has something that matches with an adult tumor but has never been seen in a pediatric tumor. The tumor has been diagnosed under the blanket term of malignant high-grade glioma.
**Update, unfortunately Georges brain tumour has been diagnosed as malignant. This is the worst possible news Sam and Gemma could receive.
Please keep up with your kind support by either sharing or donating.
Thank you**
I'm raising funds to help Sam and Gemma Fletcher with Costs associated with Travelling to and from Birmingham children's hospital, loss of earnings and accommodation while George is receiving open brain surgery.
George was diagnosed with epilepsy before Christmas.
After a rough few weeks, hospital stays a CT scan taken in Telford showed that George had hydrocephalous, fluid on his brain. Due to a blockage so we were sent to BCH last Thursday for more tests.
George needed an MRI scan as his cochlear implants distorted the CT scan imaging so much it was hard for the doctors to see what was going on, but they feared he may have a mass on the right side.
George was taken to theater to have the magnet part of his implants surgically removed, the MRI scan and endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) surgery on his brain to allow the fluid in his brain to drain.
After George's MRI, they were told that George has a tumor on his brain.
The surgeon explained that he would continue to carry out the ETV procedure to help reduce the pressure in George's head and attempt to take biopsies.
Today is open brain surgery day.
At 9.30am he will be going down to theater. George's 3rd surgery in 5 days.
Yesterday he was taken to theater to remove the remaining top part of his right hand side implant and a repeat MRI so that they could see all of the brain surrounding the tumor.
The operation today may take 10-12 hours. And recovery will be steady. They be there a minimum of 3 weeks.
