GEORGE'S 50 MILES FOR DYSLEXIA - BENEFITTING THE CHILDREN'S DYSLEXIA CENTER

As many of our friends and family know, George (aged 8) is profoundly dyslexic and for the last few years, learning to read has been a daily struggle for him. Whilst this skill comes relatively easily to many children, for George his journey has been much tougher and he has had to work incredibly hard to overcome and live with his disability. Even though he has had to miss out on things over the years for his reading lessons three times per week, or work every day - including all through the summer - to try and achieve his reading goals, George never complains and takes on whatever challenge he's thrown. Those that know him, know he's one of the hardest working and positive children around. For George, and many children with dyslexia, it's not just a case of confusing Bs and Ds, or reading words backwards. Often the letters and words move on the page, they change places, or its like reading and learning the word for the first time, each and every time you see it. Dyslexia can mean not knowing the right word for something, confusing labels such as "hot" and "cold", or struggling to remember patterns or sequences - even simple ones such as the days of the week or months of the year.
However, thanks to the amazing support of the Children's Dyslexia Center, George has been able to make really great progress in learning to read and he would like to give back to this amazing organization through this fundraiser. He aims to walk 50 miles (proper, dedicated miles - not just walking to and from school etc!) between now and the end of April.

Hi! I am George and I am raising money for the Children's Dyslexia Center so that they can help another child learn to read like they helped me. I am walking 50 miles between now and the end of April, and my goal is to raise $500. I hope you will help me reach my goal. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Love George x
