Family, friends, and bike-tour-lovin' strangers,
I've been in Australia for just under a year and my visa is running out soon. This means I will need to return to England. So I'm doing what any sane 21 year old would do...making my way home using the good old fashioned bicycle!
Now I know what some of your initial reactions may be:
"Isn't there water in between Australia and England?",
"Why not fly you crazy nutter!" and
"George you're too good looking to cycle all that way, your beautiful blonde locks won't make it"
But I thought, this is going to be a trip of a lifetime and I am going to experience countries in a way that you just can't do by public transport.
I have no finalised route but at the moment I'm planing on cycling from Cairns, AUS to Sydney, AUS then flying to New Zealand to cycle from top to bottom. I will then fly to Hong Kong cycling through China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Bangladesh, India then fly to Turkey and cycle through Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium, France and end my trip in the UK. The route will total around 20,000 kilometres which is the equivalent of cycling from Southampton to Glasgow 50 times!!

I've been saving up in Australia since January of this year and have put together a small amount to try and cover some of the costs of equipment, flights and supplies on the road. My journey will be completely self-supported, which means I will be travelling with a sleeping bag, a tent, rain gear, cooking accessories, two changes of clothes, and as many Muesli bars as I can muster packed Tetris-style into my panniers.
Thank you in advance for your help getting me on the road! You all will be in my heart and mind when I'm racing rain clouds, double-layering sunscreen, and battling the headwinds across the world.
Im also raising to fundraise for the MeningitisNow charity which you can see and donate to on https://www.justgiving.com/George-Placidi
