George Krout's chemotherapy
Donation protected
In January 2017 our Dad had ultrasound completed due to increasing size of his abdomen. Results came in and our lives forever changed. Test showed multiple lesions on the liver concerning for metastaic disease. In the coming days he had a PET Scan completed showing a mass in the left upper lung, nodules on the right lung and again the lesions on the liver. On Monday, January 30th he had a biopsy of his liver done. On Monday, February 6th we met with the oncologist for the results and treatment plan. Our Dad has Stage IV small cell lung cancer. His treatment plan is going to include 6-8 rounds of chemotherapy. After every two treatments a repeat CT scan of his chest and abdomen to check for progress. After completion of chemotherapy he will receive prophylactic radiation to his brain because unfortunately this is one of the place small cell likes to travel to.
Unfortunately lung cancer is by far the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women accounting for about 1 out of 4 cancer deaths. More people die each year of lung cancer than they do from colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined. With that being said there is not much research out there on small cell lung cancer or financial assistance for these patients. Our Dad is having his port placed this Friday, February 10th. Will begin his journey with chemotherapy on Monday, February 13th. He has a copay due at time of treatment. We have reached out to many organizations for assistance without much luck. There are funds available for patients with non-small cell but not for small cell.
Our Dad is 70 years young, with a loving wife, children and grandchildren. He has always been so good to everyone around him and helped people in need as much as possible. Has always been an honest, hard working man and we are hoping that other caring individuals like himself may be able to help him during his time of need. Thank you from all of us in advance for any help you may have to offer even if it is as much as a prayer for our Dad!
