George Kim Memorial Fund
Donation protected
Our dear friend George Kim passed away unexpectedly in early March, in Hong Kong, of causes yet to be determined. He was only 47 years old. This is a fundraiser to help his family as they work to understand what happened and deal with his passing.
George was supposed to meet up with friends to go snowboarding in Canada and when he failed to show up, they called the hotel where he was living in Hong Kong. The hotel staff found him in his apartment and he had already passed away. There was no evidence of foul play, accidental injury, or suicide. An autopsy was performed and we are awaiting the results of additional tests before the Coroner determines the cause of death—this could take some months.
George always made time for his friends, was happy to share his knowledge, and built close connections with many people from high school, college, work, business school, and wherever he lived—LA, Boston, Silicon Valley, New York, and Hong Kong. George’s friends remember he always stayed positive and cheerful, but he was also extremely private about supporting his parents, in particular his mother, whose health issues have been worsened by the stress of George’s death. She needs accessibility and safety upgrades to her house and a part-time assistant to help her with shopping, cooking, and cleaning.
Generous friends of George already covered the costs of his vigil, cremation and memorial in Hong Kong, as well as the funeral home, casket, flowers, and hearse. However George’s parents were not well enough to travel to Hong Kong and there will be a second memorial in California for them and for George’s many friends and cousins who live in the US and Canada. In addition to covering his California memorial costs, friends and family want to make sure that we can come together to help take care of his parents financially—in particular George’s mother—as they continue to grieve.
