You know him as coach, or Santa, or Elder Band parent. You know her as talent show coordinator, babysitter, or volunteer. Surely you know them as pillars of the West Side community, defined by their unflappable positivity and their gift for lighting up a room like no one else can.
What you might not know is that George and Peggy have been quietly facing serious health challenges. In 2022, Peggy was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s—and George, who is still working full-time at age 73, pulls double duty as her primary caregiver.
Throughout the month of April, we (their sons and daughter) will be all-hands-on-deck to make their home safer and more accessible, and to prepare it to accommodate a future home health aide.
Some of our goals include:
- Removing a large quantity of damaged, dangerous, or otherwise unusable furniture, fixtures, etc. and hauling to Rumpke
- Professional hazard remediation and safety upgrades
- Long overdue structural repairs
- Reorganization of living spaces, including modifications that give them access to everything they need on one floor
- Accessible furniture and medical equipment
- Additional improvements needed to support in-home medical care
Your support will allow George and Peggy to maintain as much independence as possible as their needs increase, and hopefully make them a little more comfortable day to day.
Donations of time are also highly valued—get in touch if you’d like to be part of the cleanup crew.
Please share if you’re able. Let’s make the road ahead a little easier for these beloved community figures.
