George's Journey

George Scaggs was raised in Peace Valley, Missouri. He is the proud father of Craig, Ashley, Kayla, Leah, and Dylan. George has been self-employed with Scaggs Repair for the last twenty-five years  in West Plains, and he has driven a school bus for Fair View the last seven years. He is a member of the Curry Street Church of Christ. He enjoys hunting and watching his youngest son play football. George was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer on August 3, 2018. In the following weeks the doctors discovered several lymph nodes in his throat and abdomen that were infected with cancer as well. He currently has underwent five chemotherapy treatments. After success with the treatments he was a candidate for esophagectomy surgery at Barnes in St. Louis. During surgery the doctors found an enlarged liver and spleen. After further testing they discovered beginning stages of cirrhosis, and because of this finding the surgeons were unable to perform the tumor removal surgery.  The cirrhosis diagnosis is a shock to his family as George is a non-drinker. The doctors explained that there are forms of cirrhosis that can occur from hereditary or unknown reasons.  George will have to continue chemo and radiation treatments to treat the tumor. He has missed several weeks of work already and will be out of work another four to six weeks while recovering from surgery and continuing treatments. Since he is self employed he will receive no income during this time. George's family is raising money to help pay for medical expenses for treatment and surgery.
