George Parker's Cancer fight Fund

I (Phebe M. Havor) together with Bright K. Tetteh-Kpakpah and Bright C. Vordey are fundraising on behalf of our former lecturer and supervisor, George Parker-Lamptey (Ph.D.).

As most of you may already know, George has been diagnosed with Neuroendocrine tumor-carcinoid (Malignant) and is currently being treated for liver and bone metastases. The effect of the disease has left him constantly fatigued, in unbearable pain and with a low quality of life thus being unable to work.

With initial funds, George was able to start treatment with the Royal Marsden Hospital in the United Kingdom due to the rarity of the disease. However, he ran out of funds and had to stop treatment. He currently needs 45,000 Pounds to access a follow-up Liver Embolization Surgery, Lanreotide and Zometa Acid Treatment before February - the last surgery was in September with a four-month lag hence making this fundraising necessary.

It is supposed that this should have come at an earlier notice but this critical instance was not anticipated. It is a well-known fact that money is tight and the cost of living is a subject in every conversation, but no amount is too small. If you can tell someone in the position to help, it will be of equal value. Also very important are your prayers and well wishes which will mean a great deal to him.

George has been a great mentor and a great friend to all - students, fellow faculty members and the academic community at large. He is considered one of the young and promising academic researchers the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has ever seen. A lot of his students have gone on to great places, both in academia and industry.

George is an alumnus of KNUST, the African School of Physics (2012) and Accra Academy.

The funds will be used as follows:
1. 10,000 Pounds will be used to clear a debt with the hospital.
2. 30,000 Pounds is targeted for the inpatient Liver Embolization surgery and treatment. The actual amount is 9,500 Pounds (4-day schedule). However, the consultant expects the same response as the first surgery with a (13-day schedule) resulting in 30K Pounds.
15,000 Pounds is geared at two treatments i.e. Lanreotide and Zometa Acid treatment over the period.
