George Needs Kidney Medication
Donation protected
My father has been suffering from kidney disease for a number of years now. Thanks to the efforts of him, my mother, and his amazing doctor it has been in remission. Now, however, it has flared up again and the drug (Cyclophosphamide*) he has to go back on is going to cost around $500 a month because he is in the "doughnut hole" where insurance covers little to nothing on the cost of prescriptions. My parents live on a fixed income and simply cannot afford an expense like that; especially one coming out of the blue. The insurance will only pay if he has a kidney transplant, and then only for so long, but he doesn't need a transplant yet and we'd like to keep him healthy enough to avoid that.
He really needs his first dose of medicine immediately and that is going to cost more than we can spare. We can try budgeting for it in the future or try other methods to raise money but we really need at least an immediate $500.
Like all medical issues, the longer a problem goes untreated the worse it gets and the less likely it is to be halted or reversed. He literally got the news at the doctor today (6/29/2018) so if we can get the medication for him within the week, well, that'll be a month's supply and things should be going well. I set the goal at $10,000 so he could be supplied, even at the worst "doughnut hole" cost of $500 for about twenty months. At that point we hope his kidney disease will be in remission or we will have found an alternative, either an alternative drug or an alternative source of income to pay for it.
Thank you kindly for reading this far.
*Cyclophosphamide is ordinarily an anti-cancer drug but is also used to treat my father's form of kidney disease.
