Good evening/morning, For those who may or may not know me my name is Preston Weinberg. My father is George Weinberg. The man pictured above who is in a rough battle after some injuries sustained in a freak BMX accident that happened on Sunday Oct 1 2023 on the Severn Chesapeake BMX track.
My father sustained some very serious injuries from his accident, this includes 7 broken ribs, a broken clavicle, and serious internal bruising. On Monday Oct 2 the doctor had notified us that his left lung was starting to shut down and required immediate surgery to aid in further damage to the lung. The doctors were able to perform Rib Stabilization Surgery on his left side of his rib cage to assist his lung.
With this surgery being successful, then came a long road of recovery and heavy aches and so much pain . With multiple days of PT and lung drains, he was still having his lung only operate at 30%
On Oct 12 2023, we were notified of a large pocket of fluid that is creating a worrysome and potentially hazardous issue. Another surgical procedure was ordered to help free up usage of his lung and hopefully drain the fluid to prevent infection and pneumonia.
With all of these days in and out of surgery and countless days spent in the ICU and MICU. They of course come with a mountain of bills. Missed work , tolls , gas and parking the expenses are racking up.
I, myself being an active college student and attending college 8 and a half hours away at Transylvania University in Lexington KY, there is only so much I can do to help. And I have to return to school in a week.
On Oct 12 my Mom (Kari Gibson) notified me that her FMLA was declined due to my parents not being married just yet. Even though they have been together for over 20 years. With my Moms PTO being up at the end of October and my dad being out of work, bills are impacting their life and I cannot stand seeing my parents struggle, it hurts me deeply. Her company is willing to work with her on days off but they will have to be uncompensated once her PTO is exhausted. I’m sure you can imagine the stress it would relieve to know missing a day of work for an appointment or a day she needs to assist my dad won’t impact them negatively.
After the loss of my brother my parents have been there for me through every hard day that I had after his passing and now I am going to help them like they have always been there for me. If you know my mom and dad you know they will always jump into action to help others, but will never ask for help themselves. They truly always put others before themselves and this time they need us.
In an effort to pull in support from friends, family, and various communities. I am asking for your help
Please help us reach our goal of $25,000 to help my father out with his medical bills and help my parents from drowning in worry and medical debt and allow them to keep their heads up, as we hope to have his road to recovery starting soon.
Anything helps as we have been notified through an array of people that they want to help but just don’t know how.
My mother and father are very prideful people and shoulder a lot of weight when it comes to situations like this and are in need of all the support they can get through this long road of recovery.
