George McNees & Family Fund

George Arnold McNees is turning 4 in April.  His mum Sarah, dad Darren and big sisiter Arabella (who turned 6 in January) along with cricket are his world.
George  was first diagnosed with brain cancer in March 2016.  Suffering gastro like symptoms he was admitted to The Royal Hobart Hospital where the tumour was discovered after an MRI.    In less than a week the whole family had relocated to The Royal Childrens hospital in Melbourne.
After invasive surgery to remove as much of the tumour as possible, George began 9 months of intensive treatment.  This included chemotherapy, stem cell treatment, radiation and numerous other tests and procedures.
His family spent this 9 months in a small apartment which was walking distance from the hospital.  Sarah and Darren would tag team parenting both children, being by George's bedside and trying to keep life as relatively normal as possible for Arabella.
George lived the irony of cancer treatment, feeling so horrendously unwell through chemo and radiation, whilst praying that it would make a difference to the cancer.
The family came home to Hobart in January 2017 and 2 months later they were given the amazing news that George had no evidence of the disease.
Arabella fell into the routine of kindergarten but Georges days were still filled with appointments at the out patients clinic at the RHH, speech therapy, music therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy.
At the RCH Darren had spent endless time practising  ball skills to keep George entertained throughout his days.  Gradually George began to meet normal childhood milestones and  has grown to love anything ball or sport related just like his dad, cricket, golf and tennis.
Anyone who has spent time with George in the last 3 months would comment to Sarah and Darren on how well George looked and how far he had come in the last year.  So when the news came that he had relapsed , it was a complete shock to his parents, extended family and friends alike.
2 years since receiving good news that George was cancer free, this strong, beautiful family are back at the Royal Childrens Hospital in Melbourne where George will have more surgery and start another round of radiation treatment.
This time things will be different.  George is expected to be in Melbourne for at least 3-4 months.  Arabella is in full time school in Hobart and Sarah & Darren will be alternating bringing her back for school Mon- Wed and retuning to Melbourne to spend the rest of the week with George.  Travel costs will be expensive .
Money raised through this go fund me appeal will enable the family to keep Arabella in school in Hobart as well as assist in the cost of George's on going therapy when he returns home.  The goal is  spend as much time as a family of 4 in Melbourne so they can fight this battle together.
