George was a beloved teacher. George and I were out on a date night. We were going to dinner, then to see Captain America Civil War when a madman came into the restaurant and started stabbing a pregnant waitress. Both George and I intervened, saving the waitress. An off-duty Deputy Sheriff, Lt. James Creed, also out to dinner with his wife, Laura, jumped into action, and ordered the madman to drop his weapon. He did not, instead, the madman charged Lt. Creed forcing him to shoot the assailant.
Laura Creed, a nurse, immediately provided first aid and trauma management to both the waitress as well as George. She didn't leave my side! Because of her, I was able to say "Goodbye" to George. Giving me peace and the ability to focus on the scholarship fundraising for the school he loved so much.
The waitress, has since given birth to a healthy baby girl. They will always hold a special place in my heart. They LIVED!
I have become close friends with both Jim and Laura, it has helped in all of our healing. Lt. Creed, has since trained a new K9 and named him "Heath" in honor of George.
George loved teaching. He became a bright-light at Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical High School. In his memory, an Award fund has been establishedin his name. George Heath Superhero Award. This will benefit all students at GNBVT. Keeping his memory live through continuing education.
