The George Fourgis Award for Civics
Donation protected
Hawthorne Class of 1977 and Friends
George Fourgis meant so much to all of us and made such a great impression on all of us that it's time to give back.
In honor of Mr. Fourgis, we are creating the George Fourgis Excellence in Civics Award to be awarded to an 8th Grade student prior to graduation beginning in June of 2018.
Each year, the 8th grade history teacher along with the Principal will award $2500 to the outstanding student for future college use. The student will receive a plaque and Hawthorne will also display the plaque in a public area with recognition that this gift is from the Class of 1977 and friends.
Mr. Fourgis began his career at Hawthorne in in 1962 and retired in 1993, and those 30 years never featured a dull moment as Mr. Fourgis encouraged and demanded student participation. "Who can forget the speeches we had to give and for all of us that was likely or first foray into public speaking and I know that has left a big impression on me today and has given me the confidence to be a public speaker". (Lou Rosenberg)
As a special treat George and his Son Chris will be joining us at our August 20th Reunion, you can thank him in person!
Let's get the donation process started with a goal of $25,000!
