Remembering George

First of all, to introduce myself, my name is Borigard. I am the first son of George Eleftheriou. On Monday, August 28th, 2017 George passed away during a fatal car crash on the way back from Los Angeles to Phoenix. He was in Los Angeles to work on a stolen property case and also attended a charity event for the LA Drama Club (a group which helps inner-city children learn theatre acting from famed actors totally for free). He left behind a wife, 4 children, mother, and pets.

George was, at his core, a detective. He was always figuring things out, always fixing things, and always trying to help people. After first serving his country in the United States Marine Corps and learning a variety of skills, George went back to his home in New York City, where he served as an investigator for the Supreme Court in the Bronx. During this time, he went private, working for a variety of detective agencies. Eventually, he started his own agency where he helped people more directly, and in the specific way that he wanted to. George was very thoughtful about the cases he took, even if it meant losing money. He always had a soft side for cases involving children, and offered deep discounts. On more than one account, he told me that if he could this work for free, he would. Furthermore, he did not consider being a "Detective" a job... it was a "calling". That is, something that he was meant to do... something that was his destiny. He felt very deeply about this. George was also an all around good samaritan... He drove around with a case of road flairs in the back of his old truck (an object which was always in need of TLC since it was made in 1989), so that he could help people he found crashed on the side of the road. On more than one occasion, he assisted people who were disabled inside their vehicle, by first calling for and providing support to first responders. But George also did his good deeds on his own terms... George would never stay behind for the camera crews. In fact, he didn't want to be seen on camera. This was in part due to the fact that he strongly did not want to be recognized for what he did, rather, doing the deed was enough for him. Secondly, due to the nature of work which ranged from busting cheaters all the way to high ranking mafia wise guys, George did not want to be identified in public so that his home and family did not have to deal with revenge for his completed cases. George made numerous enemies through his work, never wanting to work with the defense... rather he preferred to "put the bad guys in jail". In his personal life, George was heedless in the pursuit of the truth, and at times, his method was merciless. His iron will unbreakable, incorruptible, unyeilding. While many knew him in this capacity, he was also a friend, father, husband, and son...

It still feels unreal that he is gone. As his friend Ruben said... he was one of the last real men on this planet. He could fix anything, do anything, and never seemed to quit. It is with great honor that I write this eulogy. I bid him farewell, and a peaceful rest, perhaps for the first time in his life.

The Reason for this GoFundMe Page

George was always there for people, especially his clients. He often took pro-bono cases, "sob stories", and pretty much anything to do with helping kids. Consequently, George left behind a great deal of financial debts and bills with his family (exceeding 150k). This memorial fund is to help his family with final expenses and offset some of the bills. You are not obligated to, nor expected to contribute. If George were still alive, he would be totally against such an idea, but again, this is for his family who is now burdened with extensive bills which carried over to his wife. Arizona is a shared-property state, therefor, she has inherited all of the debt. Any help is appreciated.
