Jolly by name and jolly by nature – “Geoff Robert Jolly was a gentle soul, a talented saddler, a successful endurance rider, a person that truly loved his country, his beloved Labradors and his Arabian horses. Geoff would champion a cause he believed worth fighting for and honesty was a huge part of his persona. To know Geoff was to know someone who cared too much about others, but sadly not himself.”
We lost Geoff on 29th September 2020, on his 65th birthday. And these words by his dear friend Shirley Douglas pay tribute to the one-of-a-kind man that he was.
His sudden passing has been difficult for us all, and will leave a void forever. How do we honour a man who touched so many lives, in so many and varied ways?
The annual Landsborough ride, run by the Ballarat Social Trail Horse Riders Club, has been re-named, “The Geoff Jolly Memorial Ride” to honour his memory in perpetuity. A more tangible memorial, one for all to see, is a planned mural on the Tom Quilty Shed in his beloved Landsborough. It’s aim is to celebrate Geoff’s life and legacy, and will reflect his love for the Pyrenees Ranges, and his passion for horses and endurance riding.
The mural will be painted by his friend and Illawarra neighbour Andrew Dudley who will donate his time and skills to this cause. All we need your help with is to cover costs for the paint and equipment including scissor lift to make this large scale mural happen.
The mural will be created between 29 October and 2 November, and we invite you all to drop by for a visit, watch the artwork go up, say hi and share some loving memories of Geoff.
Additional funds raised via this campaign that exceed the cost cover for materials and equipment will go to a cause close to Geoff’s heart - Seeing Eye Dogs Australia as well as the Suicide Help Line.
