Father and Son Lose Left Legs in Tragic Motorcycle Accident
David Genter and his son, Luke, were enjoying an after-Thanksgiving motorcycle ride on Friday, November 27, 2020 when struck by a truck. Through the trauma that followed, Luke remained alert and recalls every detail of their accident. His father, however, lost consciousness at the scene and is still in a coma.
Dave was taken by ambulance to Lynchburg General, stabilized, then airlifted to the University of Virginia (UVA). Luke was airlifted to Roanoke Hospital, and later transferred to UVA to receive orthopedic care at the same hospital as his father.
Both sustained hip fractures and irreparable damage to their left legs that required amputations above their knees. Dave, however, absorbed the worst of the impact and suffered additional fractures to his neck, ribs, jaw, left arm, and fingers—most requiring surgery.
Dave and Luke’s injuries require extensive hospital care, prosthetic limbs, and rehabilitation to adapt to life with prosthetics.
Dave Genter is a full-time minister and assistant pastor at Calvary Chapel Lynchburg, Virginia. He is a loving husband and father of two sons and a daughter-in-law. Dave devotes his life to serving others in the body of Christ and community.
Luke Genter, 25, loves the Lord and works as a website developer in northern Virginia. He is a talented musician with a heart of gold who is currently producing his first music project. He does not have health insurance.
